Open Mic for the Advent Season!

Open Mic for the Advent Season!

This Wednesday, it was time for our third “Open Mic” Night in Ewersbach. We had Christmas lights and cookies and punsch for the guests. 40 people came. And of those 40, around 10 people shared a piece of creativity. One group made a “mystery cake” (chocolate, but without a recipe), some played songs, sang karaoke, shared poetry, or even some videos. I shared my costume for “Rafiki”. Only I didn’t wear it myself, I had my friend from Kenia wear it. And he wore it well! (I only have video of him wearing it, no good pictures. The video won’t upload, so you can only see the pre-assembly picture below)
I also shared the process: how I had a huge mess in my room while making it. And then I said that you need to dare to have “goal-oriented messes” in order to be creative. A workshop is great and all, but unless you get your hands dirty, the workshop will never be used. Order is good. Without order, the Open Mic wouldn’t be possible (room, appointment, helpers…) However, if you only have order for order’s sake, order lost its purpose: to facilitate new life and growth. Too much chaos is bad, but when you use tools, you are going to make a mess. And it’s not aimless. It has a goal. A purpose. Both chaos and order have a purpose when they are in balance. I encouraged people to allow for these “goal-oriented messes” in their lives. Whether they’re making a piece of art or a piece of cake.
Are you more the “organized” or “messy” type? How does that encourage/hinder your creativity and productivity? Where could you allow for a “goal-oriented mess”? Leave a comment if you like, and have a great day!
