I did some more watercolor tests for my book “Ryan’s Truck of Eggs”. One page was just random drawings, the other was a test illustration for the book itself. I experimented a bit with brown paper and ink. I like the overall look but am not quite sure how to combine the techniques. Also, watercolor wrinkles up the paper, and if you apply too much water, the paper dissolves or tears out. This shows me that my paper is not thick enough and that the glued edge of the paper block is too weak. Note to self: Buy watercolor paper and more painter’s tape! I was able to straighten the wrinkled page by taping it down and making it evenly wet again, but I will try to use better materials next time. Also, I am not quite satisfied with the look of the truck driver. But it’s a work in progress.
