Cleanup with a Gorilla and a Baboon!

Cleanup with a Gorilla and a Baboon!

I will leave for a 2-week internship tomorrow morning. And I wanted to clean up my appartment a bit before that. But not only that, I also want to declutter everything by January. So, what did I do? I took part of my collection of too many eggcartons (30+), tore them into chunks or ground them up in a blender, and turned them into papermaché. I had more material than anticipated, so I ended up with two masks: A gorilla and a baboon (a mandrill, to be exact). I built up the form with kid’s clay and eggcarton cuttings and used the shreds for the flat surfaces and the pulp for organic forms. I looked up references for the gorilla on google and did some quick sketches. The mandrill didn’t need references, since I made a mandrill mask a few years ago. It, sadly, was eaten by bugs, so this version will replace the one I’ve lost. I made sure to use wallpaper paste instead of flour as the glue, this time around, so the masks should be safe.

What will you be doing this weekend? Any cleanup work ahead? What are some creative ways you could be doing your chores? Leave a comment if you like, and have a great day!
